What is Oyster?
We'd like to think there's a little bit of good in every day. Once a day, we send a text asking what was good, and you reply with whatever you noticed. Over time, your replies become a journal (text JOURNAL to access). We hope you pop into it every now and then and are delighted by what you find.
When do I get my text?
You choose the time, we'll send the text. You can change it anytime on your profile page.
What happens to what I text to Oyster?
Your photos, words, voice memos become journal entries. If you ask us a question, you'll get an answer instead of a tile in your quilt, and when a message clearly isn't meant for the journal, we don't add it.
How do I know my entry was saved?
Every saved entry gets a reply with a sparkle ✨. No reply? It didn't reach us. Send it again when you have signal.
Can I change an entry after I've sent it to my journal?
Yes. Open your journal (text JOURNAL to access). Find the entry, tap the three dots (⋯) in the upper right of your journal entry, then tap Edit entry. Change the words, tap Save.

Can I share an entry with someone?
Yes. Open your journal (text JOURNAL to access), find the entry, tap the three dots (⋯) in the upper right of your journal entry, then tap Share entry. Choose Messages, or however you'd like to send it.

Who can read my entries?
Only you and the people you share your entries with. We don't sell your data or use it to train AI. Ever. AI sorts what you send, an entry, a question, or something urgent, and notices the feeling of a single message so hard days can be treated with kindness. It keeps no memory of you. No one at Oyster reads your entries.
What happens to my journal if I cancel?
If you cancel, you'll have access until your subscription ends, and after that your journal stays safe and unchanged in case you return. But if you delete your account, everything is erased permanently, and we can't bring it back.
Can I delete a single entry?
No, not yet, but you can edit it.
What if I miss a day, or a week?
Nothing. Oyster will simply ask the next day. Life gets busy. We understand.
Is Oyster a mental health app?
No. Oyster is a small gratitude practice. We're not therapists; we're people who believe there is real beauty in the art of noticing. But here's the deal: if something you send sounds like an emergency, we'll point you to 988. We don't want to look away from your pain, but we're not qualified to be the people who can help. And if you're ever in danger, please don't wait for us to notice. Call or text 988, any hour.
