Hi, I'm Eliza. I started Oyster because the world felt heavy. The news, the feeds, the noise: the negativity was becoming the only thing I remembered about my days.
I'd heard a gratitude journal could help, but writing pages every day felt like a lot. But writing down one thing? Totally doable. So I started a small experiment: one good thing a day.
What surprised me most was that I started seeing the good everywhere, because I knew that at the end of the day, I'd have to write something down. Anticipating the question changed how I moved through my day. And I didn't expect how much joy reading my journal would bring me. There were so many moments that I had forgotten. It felt like getting a gift; my life, my memories boomeranged back to me.
So I turned the practice into a company. Oyster launched in September 2026 from Boulder, Colorado.
Oyster is named after the oyster crackers my grandmother used to bring me from restaurants. To me, they were treasure. And a real oyster is gritty on the outside with a pearl inside, which is how I think about the good in a day: sometimes you have to look for it. Thank you for trusting us to keep yours safe.
